Coast to Coast 2022 Adventure Day 32: Savannah, TN to Priceville, AL
This post is part of a series detailing my 2022 coast to coast cycling adventure.
Today’s ride ended our brief time in Tennessee as we crossed into Alabama. We are now in full southern heat and humidity.
Day 32 Highlights:
Song of the day: Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Start: Savannah, TN
End: Priceville, AL
Distance: 107.9 miles
Total Ascent: 3,222 ft.
Breakfast: Hotel potluck
Lunch: Ranch House in Town Creek, AL (actually, second breakfast including real grits!)
Dinner: Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Que in Decatur
Progress so far: 2,757.6 miles, 90,295 ft. climbed.
Here are all of the details on today’s ride:
Today’s ride boys and girls is brought to you by the letter ‘h.’ As in heat and humidity. It was “only” 82 degrees today when we started at 5:15 AM but the humidity was oppressive. It was so humid that it was raining without any discernible source. Water drops just appeared in the air out of nowhere. I’ve also noticed that when the sun comes up it actually feels less humid. Maybe someone can explain that to me. We also just missed heavy downpours after lunch but we rode into the aftermath. The roads were very wet and the air was as thick as soup.
All that being said, this feels much better than the 105-degree bakeoff in Kansas and, ironically, moving into the Southeast has provided some relief from the heat.
Tomorrow we bang out another 100, then we rest and get ready for our final four-day push to the Georgia Atlantic Coast.
