This post is part of a series detailing my 2022 coast to coast cycling adventure.

Today we had a pleasant ride though the rolling hills of Central Georgia. We also stumbled upon some movie history (hint: we didn’t see any yutes).

Day 36 Highlights:

Song of the day: Jessica by Allman Brothers Band
Start: Fairburn, GA
End: Milledgeville, GA
Distance: 94.2 miles
Total Ascent: 4,446 ft.
Breakfast: Hotel room potluck
Lunch: Martha Jane’s Southern Cookin’ in Monticello, GA (actually, second breakfast)
Dinner: Legends Seafood & Grill in Milledgeville

Progress so far: 3,040.6 miles, 101,735 ft. climbed.

Here are all of the details on today’s ride:

Sometimes you are in the midst of something special and you don’t realize it until later. That was the case as I rode past the Sac O Suds just outside of Monticello. “That sounds familiar,” I thought and figured some other place I’ve been to had the same name. Nope. Sac O Suds was the convenience store that was robbed in the movie, My Cousin Vinnie. We also had lunch (well, second breakfast at 10 AM) at Martha Jane’s Southern Cookin’, AKA Dave’s BBQ and Seafood in My Cousin Vinnie. We sat in the same booth as Joe Pesci did in the movie.

Another big milestone today (I need to get a real life) is that, after seeing dozens of flattened armadillos on the side of the road, I finally saw a live one.

A real live armadillo scampering away from me

The weather has been very kind to us the past few days. It is hot (low 90s) and humid but much more pleasant than what we experienced in the Plains. And the wind has not been a factor since western Missouri. So far we’ve managed to avoid the heavy rains that have been in the area.

Unfortunately, Dave had a second tumble from his bike today, in a speed-bump filled neighborhood just short of our finish line. He ended up spending several hours at urgent care getting five stitches in his elbow. Ouch!

Two more days to our goal!
